Flames of terrorism reaching our door steps: Shahbaz Sharif

    June 21, 2009

Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said the future generations will never forgive if ulema from all religious sects don’t play their role in extinguishing the fire of lawlessness and disorder.

Chief minister Punjab said this while talking to a delegation of Ulema in chief minister house here Sunday.

Martyrdom of Maulana Sarfraz Naeemi was a national tragedy, he underlined. This tragedy was by product of 8-year dictatorial regime which bargained over the national dignity in the international markets, he alleged. Ulema should raise voice against this tyrannical order, he stressed.

It was responsibility of government and ulema to identify black sheep in their ranks and make endeavors to uproot extremism, he appealed. Ulema from all schools of though should join hands with the Muslim Ummah beyond the consideration of creed, cult, sect and their likes and dislikes, he remarked.

Enemies of Pakistan tried to pitch ulema of two sects against each other but they met failure, he added. “We can go ahead on the path to prosperity and development by eliminating the menace of terrorism”, he reiterated. The conspiracy being hatched by anti state elements would not be allowed to succeed, he announced.

Extremist elements did not deserve for any leniency and pardon, he said ulema were equal responsible as was government of Punjab for exposing extremists. The game of fire initiated by the enemies of the country in northern areas had spilt over into Punjab, he cautioned. Ulema would have to play their respective role to counter it, he urged.

Ulema had also played historical role in the freedom movement of Pakistan and Maulana Shabbir Usmani had hoisted flag of Pakistan on the desire of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, he maintained.

“Our individual and collective life is not immune from the menace of terrorism and violence and fire of terrorism had reached our homes, he warned.

Islam was a religion of blessing but the terrorists were massacring the Muslims and attacking the mosques in the name of Islam, he regretted.
