UNHCR mourns loss of staff member killed in Peshawar shooting

The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) is deeply shocked over the killing of a staff member Thursday at Katcha Ghari camp for internally displaced people near Peshawar.

According to the information received, at 11.30am some unknown armed men in an apparent kidnapping attempt, opened fire at the UNHCR staff in Katcha Ghari camp. As a result, Mr. Zill-e-Usman, a senior UNHCR National Staff was killed while Mr Ishfaq Ahmed, Repatriation Clerk UNHCR got injured.

It has also been learnt that a guard of the Commissionerate of Afghan Refugees (CAR) was killed and one injured in the shot out.

Mr. Zill-e-Usman 59, a Pakistani national, leaves behind a wife and four children. He joined UNHCR’s office in Peshawar in 1984. He was the chairman of UNHCR’s Staff Council in Peshawar. His colleagues were deeply shocked to learn of his sudden death and express deep condolences to his family.

UNHCR is in contact with the families and is closely monitoring the progress of Mr. Ishfaq Ahmad.
