Five persons including a female student was killed while over 40 were injured in two suicide blasts at two campuses of the International Islamic University in Sector H-11.
According to media reports, the first blast occurred at Boy’s Section of Sharia Faculty of the university while Cafeteria of Girls Section rocked by another blast.
According to administration of PIMS, 1 dead body and 19 injured were brought in the hospital and most of injured were female students.
According to an eyewitness of the incident, the security guard stopped a suspected person at the main gate of the university before the blast but he was succeeded to reach at Girls Cafeteria of the University and blow himself up.
According to eyewitnesses, after some seconds, another suicide blast occurred in the Sharia Faculty of the university.
DIG Operations Bin Yamin has confirmed the death of 5 persons in blasts.
Talking to media, he said that a head and two legs of a suicide bomber have been found while the blast damaged the building partially.
SSP Tahir Alam has confirmed two blasts as suicide.
According to a private TV channel, the police have also arrested a suspected person in front of cafeteria of the university and according to sources he was assistant of suicide bomber and belongs to Sargodha.
According to eyewitnesses, the classes were underway at the time of blasts and foreigners most of them were Chinese students studying in these campuses. At the time of the blast, 3,000 to 4,000 students were present in the university. After the blast, the hostel of the university has been vacated.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Police Foundation, NESCOM and offices of other government departments are located near the new campus of the university.
The police and other law enforcement agencies have reached at the site after the blast and started the relief activities. The police cordoned off the area.
It is noted that after start of operation in South Waziristan, several private and government educational institutes were closed across the country including the capital.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani have strongly condemned the blasts and directed the authorities concerned to provide best medical treatment to the injured.
