SC orders for conduct of survey with respect to eunuchs and their registration across the country
Supreme Court has directed all the secretaries of social welfare department to conduct the survey of eunuchs all over the country besides carrying out their registration to protect them against the exploitation at the hands of criminals.
A full bench of SC led by chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising justice Chaudhry Ejaz Ahmad and justice Shahid Siddiqui heard the case.
Advocate Aslam Khaki had filed a petition in the apex court under article 194 pertaining to the human rights praying that grant of fundamental rights to eunuchs and their protection be ensured and a commission be set up for legislation in this connection.
Eunuchs were being subjected to sheer injustice and the criminals were using them to serve their nefarious designs. Cases of kidnapping of the eunuchs were also taking place and criminals were forcing them to indulge in inhuman practices, he submitted.
The further hearing of the petition was adjourned till the reports submitted by the secretaries.
