First National Health Awards for Pakistani reporters

In a bid to recognise the contribution and efforts of health journalists the Ministry of Health organised the first National Health Media Awards 2009.

The ceremony was a joint venture of Ministry of Health and UNICEF and the topic was “Taking Polio To The Headlines”.
The three-member jury comprising of Mohammed Mallick, Editor, The News, Ihtesham-ul-Haq, Director News, Sama TV and Aamir Ahmed Khan, Global Head, BBC Urdu Service evaluated news reports and write-ups of the nominees.

As many as 2560 stories, reports and write-ups from print media and 3000 news reports from electronic media were recorded on the particular issue during the time period of one year and selected news items of the nominees were evaluated through a transparent process. Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded in each category. Ashfaq Yousafzai, (Dawn) received gold medal in the Category of Best Report International Correspondents while Marium Kiani (Dawn), receive gold medal in the category of the Rising Star Award for upcoming health reporter. Ghazala Norin, (News One) won gold medal in the category of Rising Star Award for upcoming health reporter of the year.

Fozia Azam, health reporter (TheNation) won the silver medal in the category of Rising Star for upcoming health reporter.
Faisal Hakeem, (ARY News) won gold medal (Electronic in Urdu), Mukhtar Alam, (Dawn) won gold medal for the Best Analytical Report Print Media Best Analytical Report, Fatima Ali, (Express News), won gold medal for breaking stories, Haroon Rashid, (BBC) won gold medal for the Best Report Radio Journalism, Riaz Burki, (PTV), got gold for Best Report Live Events, Mushtaq Yousafzai, (The News) bagged gold medal for Best Investigative Report Print, Namood Muslim, (PTV) won gold as Best Reporter Electronic English, Naveed Siddiqui (Geo News) won gold medal in the category of Best Reporter Electronic Urdu, Muhammad Tufail, (Daily Express) won gold.

in the Best Reporter Print Urdu category and the Best Reporter Print English Awards was given to the Shahina Maqbool (The News).

Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani Health Minister, Secretary Health Kushnood Lashari and Preliminary Secretary for Health Dr Mahreen Razzaque Bhutto were also present on the occasion.
