Construction of Bhasha dam to start from next year: NA told
Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf has said requisite funds for Bhasha dam have been arranged and the construction work on the dam will start from the next year at every cost.
He said this while responding to various questions of legislators during question hour in National Assembly (NA) Wednesday.
Country was facing electricity shortfall of 3500 megawatt at present, he said adding as a result of awareness created among the people with regard to energy conservation, demand of energy savors had increased by 400 to 500 percent.
Construction of Gomal Zam dam was started in 2007 and it would be completed in 2010, he told.
In his written reply he told electricity demand rose by 9.9 percent during 2005-o6, 14.4 percent during 2006-07 and 9.8 percent during 2008-09. Installation work of 36 power plants was underway to meet the shortfall of 7229 megawatts, he added.
To a question he told construction work on 10 major and 13 small dams had started.
Minister for labor and manpower Syed Khurshid Ahmad told the number of children who were doing labor jobs stood at 3.3 million.
Smuggling of children in connection with camel race had been fully controlled, he said. 78 percent child labor is working in the fields of agriculture, forestry and fishing, 11 percent in industry and the remaining in other sectors, he informed.
