SBP to issue Rs.5/- and Rs.10/- notes during Ramazan-Ul-Mubarak
With a view to facilitating the general public and other stakeholders in obtaining fresh currency notes before Eid-ul-Fitr, the State Bank of Pakistan has decided that all field offices of its subsidiary, SBP-Banking Services Corporation (BSC) and commercial banks’ branches throughout the country will issue one packet each of Rs.5/- and Rs.10/- denomination fresh notes to one person from their counters during the Holy Month of Ramazan.
The field offices of SBP BSC will start issuing these notes from tomorrow (25th August, 2009) while commercial banks branches will issue fresh notes from 26th August, 2009 till the last working day before Eid-ul-Fitr (or until the stock ends) on production of original Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) along-with a copy of it for record.
Commercial banks will also issue one packet each of these currency notes during the above mentioned period to their account holders on production of CNIC and its copy. They will issue a maximum of five packets each of Rs.5/- and Rs.10/- denomination fresh notes to their corporate clients on receipt of request on company’s letter head duly signed by an authorized representative.
In order to ensure equitable distribution of fresh notes, each person / entity shall be eligible for fresh notes as per quota mentioned above only once during Ramazan.
