3rd World Climate Conference starts from today

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is organizing the 3rd World Climate Conference from August 31 to September 4 2009 in Geneva.

The main aim of the conference to develop a Global Framework for Climate Services. The realization of this framework will help strengthening the climate observation, strengthening monitoring networks and research in climate modeling and predictions.

The framework will ensure speedy flow of data and information in the area of weather and climate. Heightened concerns of climate change makes the framework highly desirable. Earlier World Conferences on Climate resulted in the establishment of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and World Climate Research Programme (WCRP).

Pakistan’s delegation to this important event, will be led by country’s eminent scientist, Dr. Ishfaq Ahmad, who established country’s first climate research center i.e Global Change Impact Study Centre (GCISC) and is currently Advisor in the Planning Commission of Pakistan and Chairman of its Task Force on Climate Change.
