Suicide attack kills 17 policemen at Mingora Police training center
At least 17 Police recruits were killed while more than 40 others sustained serious injuries when a suicide bomber blew himself up at police training center of Mingora where Pakistan’s army search and clean operation is underway.
The area was rattled with intense fire after the blast in the chief town of Swat valley. Round about 50 to 60 Police trainees were busy in training at the center when a suicide bomber reached the training ground and blew himself up, killing 17 recruits and injuring 40 others, sources told Online.
Curfew has been imposed in the region and the authorities have declared emergency at the hospitals. Security forces have cordoned off the whole area after the incident. The police-training center in Mingora previously came three times under attack of the militants.
The rescue workers reached at the site and shifted the injured to Saidu Sharif. The shops were closed after the incident. Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain told media men it was a suicide attack in which 12 Police recruits lost their lives.
Over 60 recruits of Special Police force were getting training when a suicide bomber reached the ground after climbing from wall and blew himself up. Answering to a question, he said, the terrorists would continue to carryout such attack anywhere in country especially in Malakand division.
He advised the masses to be ready to face such terrorist activities in future. The terrorists’ backbone has been dismantled but some are hiding in mountainous areas and bunkers and they wanted to tell the masses that they still have capacity to carryout such activities.
The terrorists wanted to create anarchy in the country, he said, adding that, security forces are being targeted because they have finished terrorists. The situation was under control in the division, he said. The masses of Malakand division should not loss their patience and be united, he said. The war against terrorism would be continued till complete elimination of terrorists, Iftikhar said.
He went to say that terrorists are still in Malakand division and targeting people. Police and security forces are on high alert, Mian Iftikhar Hussain said.
Answering to a question, he said, there was rule of terrorists in areas of Swat but now they are hiding in caves and mountainous areas. He paid tribute to policemen and security forces who despite sacrifices are performing their duties.
On the other hand, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani have strongly condemned the suicide attack and ordered investigation. In a statement, they said, the terrorists would not be allowed to succeed in their nefarious design.
Quaid Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Nawaz Sharif has also strongly condemned the blast, saying nation is united against the menace of terrorism.
