Blast at UN WFP office: 3 killed
Three people have been killed including a foreigner and 8 injured in a bomb explosion inside the United Nations World Food Program office in posh sector of Islamabad.
The blast occurred at 12:30 Monday afternoon at United Nations World Food Program office located in Street Number 6 of F-8/3 sector. According to Initial reports the blast occurred at ground floor of Finance and Logistic branch of the office.
Soon after the blast the police has taken over the control of entire area and started search operation of nearby buildings. Ambulances and rescue teams reached the site of the incident immediately
According to the DIG Operation Islamabad Binyamin two Pakistani women named Farzana and Gul were killed in the blast. The women were brought to Ali Medical Center in serious condition where they succumbed to their injuries.
The four injured have been identified as Asif, Munib, Wahab and Tahir.
DIG Operation Islamabad Binyamin told the press that explosion occurred in the lobby of the UN WFP office in sector F-8/3 Islamabad.
He said that apparently it looks like a planted blast, saying 7 to 8 kilograms explosives material used in the blast.
SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam ruling out any security lapse said that the blast was not a suicide attack but the bomb was planted inside the UN office.
Confirming the death of three people including a foreigner he said that the foreigner has been identified as Mr. Golden and is an Iraqi national, while 2 Pakistani women Gul Mukhtar and Farzana Barkat, the receptionist were also killed in the blast.
SSP said that the security had already been tightened at the office the staff had to pass through two scanners before entry into the office.
He said investigations have been launched into the incident and a complete investigation report would be forwarded to senior officials.
The UN officials and people in nearby buildings have been asked to immediately evacuate the area in the wake of the blast. Meanwhile, the injured have been rushed to the hospital.
Deputy Director WFP while talking to Online told that nearly 80 employees local and foreigners were working in the office. He said that he was sitting in his office when he heard the blast and he immediately ran outside and saw many injured people lying all around. He said that looking at the state of the injured he fears that the death toll could rise.
Sajjad Anwar an IT engineer talking to media confirmed that the blast occurred in the lobby inside the gate. Blast cause death of a receptionist Gul Rukh and her assistant Farzana. Sajjad Anwar told that all security measures were taken to protect the office and all they are surprised to have a blast in the lobby. He told that about 80 person worked in the office including 25 foreigners.
Meanwhile Spokesman PIMS said that 3 of the injured are in very serious condition who are Munir Tahir and Wahab.
High alert has been sounded in Islamabad.
Meanwhile President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Speaker, Deputy Speaker NA, Chairman Senate and others have condemned the blast and expressed grief over the loss of lives in the incident.

blast UN office has ordered the immediate best medical relief to the
injured. He also ordered enquiry into the incident.
The World Food Programme office is located a short distance from Zardari House, the private residence where Pakistan People’s Party chief Asif Ali Zardari lived before becoming President, some police offices and the district administration and the district courts.
