4th anniversary of October quake today
All arrangements have been finalized for the observance of 4rth anniversary of 8th October 2005 earthquake today (Thursday) which hit Azad Kashmir and some parts of NWFP on this day.
The day will dawn with special prayers for the soul of martyrs of the quake as well as progress and prosperity of Pakistan.
In Muzaffarabad, sirens will be sounded at 8.52 in the morning during which all kinds of traffic will come to a standstill for one minute to pay homage to the martyrs. Later a collective Duwa will also be offered at University ground.
More than a hundred thousand people lost their lives. Since then, even with millions and millions of rupees coming into the country for reconstruction and development in those parts of Kashmir affected by the tragedy, there are still many families living in tents (temporary metal containers) in Azad Kashmir.
The officials said Muzaffarabad has been rebuilt, but unemployment is high, education facilities lack, heath care facilities need attention.
Moreover, despite the anniversary and how the catastrophe shaped today’s Muzaffarabad, the day was largely forgotten by most people.
Besides non Governmental organization, the Federal Government would also organize various functions to mark the anniversary of October 08, 2005 devastated earthquake.
