Collision in trains leaves 16 dead and 35 injured
At least 16 people were killed and 35 other including women and children received serious injuries in a head-on collision between passenger train and cargo train near Juma Goath Railway station.
Allama Iqbal express coming from Karachi rammed into a cargo train at Landhi area near Juma Goath Railway station, killing 16 people and injuring 35 others.
Police, rangers, rescue teams and technical staff of Pakistan Railways rushed soon after collision and started rescue operation. Two bogies of the passenger train destroyed completely in the collision and injured passengers were pullout after cutting parts of bogies.
The injured were shifted to Jinnah hospital where condition of some six are said to be in critical condition, sources said.
After the incident, the railway traffic from Karachi to other area of the country was suspended. According to the railway authorities, the rescue work would be completed within some hours and inquiry into the incident has also been ordered.
The railway traffic would be restored soon, they added.
