No let up in Peshawar bombing, when 10 killed and 29 injured in another terror strike
At least ten people were killed while 29 other were wounded in lethal series of blast in metropolis city of Peshawar on Saturday evening.
The blast occurred at Pushtkara roundabout checkpoint, some 2 or 3 kilometer away from Peshawar Saddar when a suicide bomber rammed his explosive laden vehicle at the checkpoint.
As a result, ten persons including police officials and two children died on the spot while 29 other sustained serious and minor injuries. Two children are also among those killed in the blast.
The rescue teams rushed the spot immediately and shifted the injured in different hospitals. Three injured were shifted to lady reading hospital while 12 injured were brought to Khyber medical hospital, the hospital administration confirmed. Meanwhile, emergency has been declared at all the Peshawar hospitals.
Team of the bomb disposal squad told that 50-60 kg explosive material used in the blast while several vehicles and building were damaged in the explosion. Soon after the incident the security forces cordoned off the area.
The death toll can be increased, as many injured are said to be in critical condition. The building of Red Crescent was also destroyed in the blast.
Meanwhile, CCPO Peshawar, Liaqat Ali while talking to media told that suicide bomber wanted to enter Peshawar Cant area but police personnel deputed at checkpoint stopped him at the checkpoint.
He appreciated the courage and valor of police personnel and said that it is a sign of great sacrifice. They sacrificed their lives and saved the city from a bigger catastrophe.
While replying to a question he said that police official were standing in proper drill and they were well protected and when the they tried to stop the explosive laden vehicle, the suicide bomber blew it up.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Friday condemned the suicide attack in Peshawar. The two leaders reiterated their resolve in countering terrorism and not to allow anyone disrupt peace in the country.
In separate messages, the two leaders expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life. They also ordered investigation into the incident and best possible medical treatment for the injured.
Quaid PML-N Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Governor Punjab Suleman Taseer, Governor Nwfp Owais Ghani, Chief Minister Nwfp Amir Haider Khan Hoti, Federal Ministers, State Ministers, Governor Balochistan, Governor Sindh, Chief Minister Sindh, The central President of Awami National Party (ANP) Asfandyar Wali Khan, Provincial President ANP Afrasiyab Khatak, Information Minister NWFP Mian Iftikhar, PML-Q NWFP President Ameer Muqam, chief of PPP (Sherpao) Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao and other personalities also strongly denounced the blast.
