Doctors’ ignorance in Huma Wasim, Imane Malik: Jakhrani suspends registration of 22 doctors

Federal Health Minister Ejaz Jakhrani has issued orders of suspending the registration of 22 doctors of National Hospital and Doctors Hospital for their ignorance in the treatment of Huma Wasim, wife of legendary cricketer Wasim Akram and innocent girl Imane Malik on the recommendations of National Assembly Standing Committee for health.
The meeting of the committee, which was held here on Thursday with its chairman Nadeem Ihsan in the chair, ordered the minister to submit report within 24 hours about the ignorance of doctors in the treatment of PML-N MNA Faiz Mohammad Khan.
The committee during its meeting reviewed the cases of doctors’ ignorance in the treatment of Huma Wasim, wife of legendary cricketer Wasim Akram, innocent little girl and in Lahore and PML-N MNA Faiz Mohammad Khan, who was brought to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.
Reviewing the doctors’ ignorance in the treatment of Huma Wasim, the committee recommended to the minister to suspend immediately the registration of doctors, who committed ignorance, on which the minister issued orders to Pakistan Medical and Dental Council suspend the registration of 22 doctors.
Briefing the committee, health officials said doctors’ ignorance has been proved in the investigative committee regarding the death of Huma Wasim and she was given extra anti-biotic drugs without diagnosing her disease, while there was no coordination among the doctors of the two doctors.
They said her tests were conducted from various laboratories, while the officials of National Hospital mistreated her during discharging her.
According to the investigative report, Huma Wasim was boarded on air ambulance in unsatisfactorily condition having no doctor and her disease was wrongly diagnosed, adding, she had fingle infection when her disease was diagnosed in India.
However, according to PMDC chairman Dr. Asim there is no clear law regarding registration of cases against doctors and any group or person could register case against doctors through court, adding, the registration of doctors committed ignorance would be suspended on the directions of ministry.
Briefing the committee about the investigative report of the Punjab government about the doctors’ ignorance in treatment of little girl Eman Malik, Punjab health secretary said it was found after the girl death on November 29 that the hospital had no facilities of ambulance and ventilator and the team has recommended the closure of the hospital.
Dr. Asim said that presently the hospital is not being closed because it provides 70 percent health facilities and it is not correct to close it on only incident, adding, orders have been issued to close its emergency.
The committee ordered to submit report of Eman Malik within 10 days, while took serious notice of the ignorance meted out to PML-N MNA Faiz Mohammad Khan in Pims hospital and sought report in one day.
Minister Ejaz Jakhrani told the committee that the MNA was not given any medical aid instead of being remained in the hospital for one and half hour, adding, investigations into his death are in progress and report in this regard would be sent to Supreme Court and Prime Minister.
He said Director Dr. Farrukh and Dr. Azeem present at the time of MNA treatment have suspended over ignorance.
The committee also transferred Executive Director Pims Dr. Altaf to health ministry and appointed Dr. Ghazala Mehmood, Dean of Quaid-e-Azam Post Graduate Medical College in his place.
The committee during its meeting directed Punjab health secretary to provide bill draft about health care services regulations to the committee and also directed the health ministry and PMDC to prepare regulatory bill to regulate private hospitals, laboratories and clinics and present in parliament.
Wasim Akram informed the committee in his briefing about his wife treatment declared the doctors of National Hospital and Doctors’ Hospital responsible for the death of his wife, alleging, they committee non-seriousness in the treatment instead of receiving large money.
“Doctors know only money and have nothing with the treatment of people and hospitals have become slaughter houses”, he remarked and demanded that the hospitals should be brought in to national corridor.
Ejaz Jakhrani said the inquiry report would be handed over to Wasim Akram and he could register FIR against doctors if he desired so.
The committee while expressing serious concerns over doctors’ ignorance in the treatment of Huma Wasim and little girl Eman Malik demanded to register FIR against involved doctors and arrest them.
The committee constituted 15-member committee headed by Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry committee to review the matter of doctors’ ignorance.
