NUML registrar resigns over manhandling with professor
The Registrar of National University of Modern Languages (NUML), Brigadier (retd) Ubaidullah Ranjha, involved in the physical assault on a lecturer of the University has resigned from his post on Wednesday.
According to media reports, Brigadier (r) Ubaidullah Ranjha presented his resignation to Rector of the University Brig (retd) Aziz Ahmed Khan and his resignation has been accepted.
Brigadier (retd) Ubaidullah Ranjha appeared in the inquiry committee formed for probing the incident and admitted his involvement in thrashing International Relations Department Lecturer Tahir Malik. The professor, however refused to appear before the committee.
It may be recalled that after the incident, protests were started by students and faculty over thrashing of a lecturer by the registrar and demanded the resignation of registrar which was not accepted by the administration. NUML Academic Staff Association has also warned of country wide protest against the incident.
President Asif Ali Zardari had taken notice of the physical assault on the International Relations Department Lecturer Tahir Malik by NUML Registrar Brigadier (retd) Ubaidullah Ranjha and directed concerned officials to constitute the committee.
