Pakistan eelcted as V.P. of next UNGA

The Asian Group today decided to endorse Pakistan’s candidacy for the post of a Vice President of the 65th session of the UN General Assembly, which begins in September 2010
Pakistan’s candidature for the post of Vice President of the 192-member Assembly was unanimous, reflecting the country’s recognition as an active member of the United Nations and its constructive role in the world body’s deliberations.
The function of a Vice President is to assist the President in the conduct of the Assembly’s affairs for one year and Pakistan last served as the Assembly’s Vice President during the sixtieth session in 2005
Pakistan has also been elected to Chair the Asian Group in New York for the month of October 2009
